Seoul APIS Chapter: Baraka Little Library

Delivering quality classes with quality passion.

Soul Space has been implemented at APIS (Asia Pacific International School) in Seoul as a club for students. SSAPIS (Soul Space APIS) is led by student Somang and offers afterschool art classes in Itaewon, Seoul. SSAPIS has partnered with an organization named Baraka Little Library (바라카 작은 도서관) where refugee women and children can find safety. With the aim for recently immigrated moms and children to become more used to Korean lifestyle, culture, and learning environment, Baraka Little Library offers Korean language and Korean cultural programs. SSAPIS has partnered with Baraka Little Library to teach the Soul Space Curriculum to the children who attend the afterschool art program. With approximately 15 students taking part in the afterschool program, and classes twice a week, year-round, we strive to teach the children the basics of art and how to express themselves through visual arts and poetry.

A Global Program

Soul Space is a global program serving students across the Bay Area as well as South Korea.

Due to the distance between the founder of Soul Space (right) and the president of Soul Space Seoul (left), zoom and virtual meetings often take place, even if it means waking up at 4 am to discuss class plans! We make sure to keep the curriculum consistent between locations to gauge different perspectives of children around the world while teaching them the fundamental elements of visual arts and poetry.
